Inspector general says New Orleans pays too much to collect late property taxes

Starting this year, the city began holding adjudicated property auctions through contractor Archon Information Systems. By November, the auctions had netted $12 million in sales, according to the report. Before its July auction, the city reported an additional $1.2 million in delinquent tax collections from owners who wanted to avoid losing their properties.
