A veteran New Orleans police officer arrested last month for payroll fraud allegedly claimed thousands of hours reviewing red-light camera footage even when system records showed he was inactive, court documents show.
Brandon Coleman, 39, is a senior police officer assigned to traffic in NOPD’s Special Operations Division, where he worked overtime reviewing footage from the city’s Traffic Camera Safety Program.
Under NOPD policy, Coleman was required to log into the web-based system from an NOPD station, according to an affidavit supporting his arrest. His job was to review potential violations captured by automated cameras, verify information such as the vehicle’s make, model and registered owner, and issue citations. Each violation should take about a minute to verify, investigators said.
