Office of Inspector General urges New Orleans S&WB to fix billing issues before considering rate hike

The Office of Inspector General has issued an opinion on the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board’s consideration of a rate hike to deal with its ongoing millions of dollars of delinquent funding issues.

According to the report, SWBNO has experienced multiple well-publicized issues regarding customer billing, resulting in numerous customer complaints of unusually high or faulty bills. Errors have been blamed on a range of issues, including new billing software, an over-reliance on estimated bills, and a lack of training for employees.
