Sewerage & Water Board failed to collect $7 million in sanitation fees, inspector general finds

The Sewerage and Water Board issued nearly $42 million in sanitation fees on behalf of the city of New Orleans in 2014 but did not collect on $7 million — nearly 17 percent, and the city failed to shut off water service to customers with outstanding balances as allowed under its regulations.
